How HydraFacial is structured — what each step does
HydraFacial is a sequential treatment. Several stages are performed one after another, each with a separate applicator. The strength of the protocol lies in this order. The skin is first cleansed, then opened up and treated with active serum. In selected versions, it is also prepared and finished at lymphatic and cellular level.
Vortex Cleansing is the first applicator — vortex cleansing. A gentle spiral tip removes excess sebum, impurities and make-up residue from the skin’s surface. At the same time, it hydrates the skin with gentle glycolic and salicylic acids. This is not a peel or exfoliation. It is ‘wet’ cleansing with simultaneous infusion, so the skin is not attacked but gently prepared for the next stages.
Exfoliation and Acid Peel — the second stage. A blend of AHA and BHA acids, in a concentration tailored to skin sensitivity, exfoliates dead epidermal cells and loosens congested pores. It may sound like an intensive peel. In practice, it is one of the gentler ways to exfoliate. The exfoliating effect is real, without burning or skin peeling in the days after the treatment.
Extractions — vacuum extraction. Rather than manual squeezing, a specialised tip uses gentle suction to draw out pore contents and flush them with a salicylic acid solution. For many people, this is the most noticeable stage of the protocol. Pores look visibly cleaner, while the skin is less red than after traditional manual extraction.
Serum infusion (Vortex Fusion) — the fourth and key stage. A cocktail of active ingredients is infused into cleansed, prepared skin: antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid. This is where HydraFacial differs from standard cleansing. Your skin does not simply lose what it does not need. It immediately receives what it does need. In the Deluxe version, this is where an additional booster with specialised ingredients is introduced.
Classic, Deluxe, Platinum — three options, three scopes
Only once you understand the protocol does comparing the three options make sense. The difference is not ‘better quality versions of the same steps’ — it is additional stages and specialised ingredients tailored to specific concerns.
Classic
a complete cleansing protocol — a reliable foundation
- vortex cleansing + exfoliation + acid peel
- vacuum extraction
- serum infusion (antioxidants, peptides, HA)
- for everyone: a regular skin reset and maintaining results after a series
- no downtime, with visible results straight away
Deluxe
Classic + a booster tailored to your concern
- the complete Classic protocol
- an additional booster — for example, an acid-based option for acne, a brightening option for hyperpigmentation, or a lifting option for loss of firmness
- the booster is selected during consultation based on your skin’s current needs
- for skin with a specific concern that requires a targeted ingredient
Platinum
Deluxe + lymphatic drainage + LED
- the complete Deluxe protocol (Classic + booster)
- lymphatic drainage before the main treatment — reduces swelling and puffiness
- LED therapy to finish — blue for acne, red for regeneration and anti-ageing
- for skin with puffiness, after stress, or before an important event
- the broadest scope — the only version that addresses swelling and provides direct cellular stimulation
In other words: if your skin mainly needs cleansing and hydration, Classic does this comprehensively. If you have a specific concern in mind — acne, hyperpigmentation or early signs of ageing — Deluxe targets it with a focused ingredient. If you want to reduce puffiness, achieve a pre-shoot model effect or enjoy an especially intensive finish, Platinum is the only version with all these tools at once.
When to choose Deluxe — and which booster to discuss
Deluxe is for those who already know HydraFacial and know that the basic protocol is not enough for them. It is also for those who hear during consultation: ‘There is a specific concern here to address.’ The strength of Deluxe lies in the booster: a specialised cocktail of active ingredients infused into the skin after cleansing and extraction.
Acne-prone and congested skin — here, the cosmetologist will usually select a booster with a higher concentration of salicylic or azelaic acid, often enriched with antibacterial ingredients. Skin that is cleansed and immediately treated with an ingredient targeting sebum congestion and inflammation may — for many people — calm noticeably after just a few sessions. This is a very different experience from Classic, where the infusion is more generally conditioning.
Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone — brightening boosters usually contain ingredients that inhibit melanin production, such as vitamin C, kojic acid and niacinamide in salon-strength concentrations. They work on the stages of hyperpigmentation formation from within. Skin prepared and opened up by the Classic protocol absorbs them more effectively than it would a cream applied to the surface. Results are not immediate. They are usually seen gradually after a series of sessions.
Loss of firmness and early signs of ageing — peptide and lifting boosters, for example with growth factors, resveratrol or EGF, target collagen-production mechanisms. They do not replace tissue stimulators or deep-tissue treatments. However, for some people, they can provide regular support for the skin within an anti-ageing programme.
When to choose Platinum — and what lymphatic drainage before treatment involves
Platinum is the only HydraFacial version that, before moving on to cleansing, prepares the face with lymphatic drainage. This is not a bonus or a decorative addition — it creates a genuinely different starting point for the whole treatment.
Lymphatic drainage of the face is a gentle massage with a specialised applicator along the lymph nodes. It stimulates lymphatic flow. Lymph is a fluid responsible, among other things, for transporting impurities and inflammatory mediators. When its flow slows down — due to stress, fatigue, insufficient sleep, fluids or a sedentary lifestyle — the face can look swollen, ‘heavy’ and lacking in colour. For many people, drainage can visibly reduce this effect during the treatment itself. The face looks lighter and more rested before the cosmetologist even reaches for the main applicator.
At the end of Platinum — after the full protocol with a booster — comes LED therapy. The two colours have different uses and are usually selected according to your skin’s needs before treatment. Blue light has an antibacterial and calming effect, making it suitable for acne-prone skin and skin after extraction. Red light stimulates cellular mitochondria and supports collagen production, making it suitable for regeneration, anti-ageing and tired skin.
When is Platinum particularly justified? First — when your face is swollen and you know this is due to exhaustion, stress or lack of sleep. Second — before an important event such as a photo shoot, important meeting or wedding. Drainage and LED, combined with the full protocol, create a glow that is noticeably more intensive for many people than after Classic or Deluxe. Third — as the final stage of a series. After several Classic or Deluxe sessions, Platinum can complete the course and maximise the effect of the whole programme.
How often to have it and what is needed to maintain results
HydraFacial — regardless of the version — is not a ‘once and for all’ treatment. The results are real and clear for many people, but the skin still produces sebum, accumulates impurities and uses up active ingredients. Regular sessions are not a marketing idea. They are simply the reality of skin biology.
Classic works well as a regular treatment — once a month or every few weeks, depending on your skin’s needs. It provides ongoing maintenance in good condition, without a particular goal beyond that. For oily and blackhead-prone skin, it can also be the starting point for further treatments. Deluxe begins to make sense as a series — usually several sessions every 2–4 weeks, before the effect of the specialised booster becomes lasting. The booster does not change after every session. The cosmetologist decides when to modify the formula. Platinum — because of the drainage and LED — can be used regularly, but some people choose it as an occasional treatment or to complete a series. There is no need to book Platinum every month if your skin responds well to Deluxe.
One principle applies to all versions: the first clear results usually appear after a series of 3–6 sessions, rather than after one. A single treatment makes a difference — but genuine improvement in skin condition is built through repetition.
HydraFacial with other treatments — what enhances the result
HydraFacial combines well with other treatments — both during the same visit and as part of a longer programme. The rationale is simple: cleansed, open skin after HydraFacial absorbs subsequent active ingredients more effectively than unprepared skin.
HydraFacial + cavitation peel
Cavitation can precede HydraFacial as an additional epidermal exfoliation. It is particularly helpful for skin with a thicker horny layer, which might otherwise limit serum penetration.
HydraFacial + mesotherapy
HydraFacial cleanses and opens the skin. Mesotherapy delivers active ingredients directly into the dermis. This works well as a sequence in an anti-ageing programme or intensive moisturising treatment.
HydraFacial + GeNeO
The GeNeO oxygenation protocol complements HydraFacial by stimulating gas exchange in the tissues. This combination is particularly interesting for tired skin and skin showing signs of ageing.
HydraFacial Deluxe (acne booster) + acne treatment programme
HydraFacial is then one element of the plan, not a standalone acne “treatment”. It is complemented by a salicylic peel or other methods targeted at the cause.
An important principle: HydraFacial does not replace deep-tissue treatments — biorevitalisation, collagen stimulators or lasers. It works at a different level. However, as a regular part of a programme that prepares the skin and maintains it in good condition between deeper sessions, it has real value.
What to expect and what to know before your visit
HydraFacial is one of the few salon treatments after which you can go straight to a meeting or event. The effect of cleanliness, hydration and radiance is usually visible immediately — with no redness, peeling or need to “hide away” for several days. This does not mean there are no rules after the treatment.
- 01
immediately after
Your skin may be slightly pink — this usually passes within several to several dozen minutes. For most people, it simply looks cleaner and more radiant.
- 02
the first 24 h
Avoiding make-up for a few hours after the infusion allows the skin to absorb the serum better. SPF 50+ is essential. Avoid saunas, swimming pools and intense exercise.
- 03
a few days after
Do not use strong acids at home (retinol, AHA/BHA) for 2–3 days — the skin is more receptive and may react more strongly than usual.
- 04
after completing the series
The effect builds over time — after several sessions, the improvement in skin condition is usually noticeably longer-lasting than after a single treatment.
Men should wait a little — skin after shaving may be more sensitive to acids and vacuum extraction. Ideally, do not shave immediately before HydraFacial. If you shave in the morning and have your treatment in the afternoon, this is usually fine, but mention it to your cosmetologist.
