Carboxytherapy or scalp mesotherapy — how they differ and which to choose

Two treatments, two mechanisms, one goal — healthy, denser hair. But choosing the right one means understanding how each works.

Hair loss, thinning, brittleness, slow regrowth — more and more people are looking for solutions beyond the pharmacy shelf. Among salon-based options, two treatments come up most often: carboxytherapy and scalp mesotherapy. They sound similar, and people expect a similar effect. Yet they work in completely different ways. One relies on a physiological effect that switches on the body's own repair mechanism. The other delivers to the follicle what's missing from outside. Understanding this difference is the quickest route to choosing the method that answers your specific problem.

Two treatments, two mechanisms

The simplest way to put it: carboxytherapy changes the environment the follicle lives in; mesotherapy feeds the follicle directly. The end goal — healthier hair growth — is similar, but the route there is different.

Carboxytherapy

stimulates microcirculation with CO₂

  • subcutaneous injection of carbon dioxide
  • Bohr effect: vessel dilation, better oxygenation
  • triggers the body's own regenerative mechanisms
  • effective for scalp ischaemia and weakened follicles
  • works independently of active ingredients

Scalp mesotherapy

delivers active ingredients to the follicle

  • micro-injections of a cocktail with vitamins, minerals and peptides
  • ingredients reach the layer where hair grows, directly
  • nourishes follicles and regulates how the hair follicle functions
  • may contain bioreservoirs that extend the effect
  • customised to your hair and scalp condition

Who benefits more — and why

Both treatments can deliver very good results for hair loss — but each suits a slightly different underlying cause. It helps to know which argument favours which.

What a series looks like — and what to expect

Both carboxytherapy and mesotherapy are series-based treatments — a single visit rarely delivers the full result. The hair follicle has a natural growth cycle that doesn't change overnight. That's why the same principle applies to both: results build up gradually and require consistency.

  1. 01

    Consultation & assessment

Assessment of your scalp condition, health history and the type of hair loss. This is the key step — it determines which treatment is chosen and, for mesotherapy, which cocktail.

  2. 02

    Series of treatments

Several sessions at regular intervals are usually recommended. The series is set individually — it depends on how severe the problem is and how your scalp responds.

  3. 03

    First results

For many people, reduced hair loss and improved hair condition become noticeable during or after the first series. New hair growth appears with a natural delay — growth takes time.

  4. 04

    Maintenance sessions

After completing the series, some people choose to continue with maintenance visits — less frequent, but regular. The specialist sets the frequency based on the results achieved.

Is it worth combining them?

Carboxytherapy and mesotherapy aren't mutually exclusive — in practice they often complement each other and can be used together in one treatment plan. The logic is simple: CO₂ improves blood supply and clears the way. The active ingredients from mesotherapy then have a better chance of reaching the follicle.

Carboxytherapy + mesotherapy in one plan

A sequence of treatments — first improving blood supply, then nourishing the follicle. For many people, this gives better and faster-noticeable results than either method used alone.

Scalp mesotherapy + supplementation

Salon treatments work more effectively alongside a suitable diet or targeted supplementation. The specialist can point to areas worth strengthening from within.

Series of treatments + home care

Shampoos, conditioners or ampoules suited to your scalp condition help extend and maintain the results of the series. They don't replace the treatment, but they complete it.
