A treatment room at J'adoreADVANCED HAIR STYLING
Some hairstyles are for every day — and some are for that one day. A wedding, a reception, a prom, a photo shoot, a christening, an eighteenth birthday: occasions where your hair needs to last from morning until the last dance, and look just as beautiful in the first photo as at midnight.
This isn't something you rush before heading out the door. A professional occasion updo is a construction. It's planned around your dress, your features, your accessories and your schedule for the day, then set to withstand emotion, hugs and weather. At J'adore Instytut, these hairstyles are created by our hair stylist. We create elegant buns and updos, soft Hollywood waves, braided elements and plaits, and we secure veils and accessories. Before a wedding, we almost always book a trial, so there are no surprises on the big day. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before you sit down in the chair.

How it works
An occasion updo is a hairstyle designed for a specific event and a specific person — never a template from the internet. Your stylist looks at the structure and length of your hair, your face shape, your neckline and the cut of your dress. Only then does she build the form: an elegant bun, soft waves, a sleek finish, or a romantic updo with braided detail.
The other half of the work is longevity. The occasion lasts many hours, so the hairstyle is set gradually with hairspray, hidden pins and clips positioned to withstand hugs, dancing, weather and emotion — without ever looking overdone. A good updo holds all day and still looks light.

ADVANCED HAIR STYLING
An updo is built in a specific order, and that order determines everything. First comes the hidden base: sections gathered with an elastic, a slightly backcombed root area, and several pins inserted in opposing directions — these are the anchor points the whole form rests on. Only on this framework does the visible shape take form: the bun, the twist, the wave, the braided detail. A top layer of hair then covers the structure, which is why a well-made updo looks soft and light on the outside, even though it's firmly anchored underneath.
The force that holds it all in place is friction and opposing tension, not pressure alone. A pin is inserted across the direction the hair pulls — two crossed pins lock against each other, so neither can slip out on its own. Backcombing at the root creates a tangled mesh for the base to grip: a smooth, slippery section slides out of an updo far more easily than a slightly roughened one. Hairspray only adds the final layer — it smooths the surface and holds stray strands, but it can't support a shape that isn't anchored underneath. The same principle applies to braids, just spread across the whole length: each crossing of strands presses down on the one before it, so the plait locks itself in place.
Did you know? A classic bobby pin has one straight side and one wavy side — and that's not decorative. The wavy side increases contact with the hair and creates the friction that stops the pin from sliding out on its own. That's why it's inserted with the waves facing the head, not the other way round — a small detail every stylist knows, and one that can change how well a hairstyle holds up over a full day.
ADVANCED HAIR STYLING · Advanced updos / braided styles
Did you know? A hairstyle that lasts all day doesn't come from a heavy hand with hairspray — it comes from construction from within: a hidden base of elastics and pins that supports the whole form. That's why a well-made bun looks soft and light, yet still survives the first dance.

On your wedding day, there's no room for experiments — that's why a trial isn't an extra, it's the most important part of the process. At the trial, we settle on the final shape, check how it looks with your veil and accessories, see how your hair type behaves, and find out exactly how much time you'll need on the morning of the day.
From our stylist
The most common mistake is booking a trial at the last minute. Leave yourself a few weeks' buffer — if anything needs refining (a different updo direction, different accessories), there's time for a second attempt without the stress.
For her and for him
Updos and braids for women are the heart of this service — from romantic, soft forms to sleek evening elegance. We work around your dress, jewellery and makeup, and for weddings, a trial is standard.
The areas we support
Occasion styling for men is grooming for the event — groom, best man, guest. This isn't about an updo, but about a clean, long-lasting style that holds all day. You'll find the details and the full offer for him in the hairdressing styling section.

Timing depends on the hairstyle — a sleek evening updo comes together faster than an elaborate wedding hairstyle with braided elements and a veil. We confirm the exact time at the consultation or trial.

Aftercare
The less you "fix" your updo, the better it holds. A few simple rules will get you through the day without worrying about your hair.
The less you touch your hairstyle, the longer it lasts. A few loose strands falling out on purpose are part of the style, not a mistake. If something really bothers you, ask your stylist for spare pins before you leave.
Humidity and wind are an updo's biggest enemies. For an outdoor shoot or an open-air wedding, it's worth carrying a few pins and a mini hairspray — we'll tell you which ones.
After the event, take your hairstyle down without rushing: remove all the pins and accessories first, then brush through. Forcing tangles out unnecessarily weakens the hair.
If your hair tends to frizz, a small amount of serum or oil on the ends before you leave smooths it out for photos. Don't overdo it — too much weighs the hairstyle down.

An occasion updo is an aesthetic treatment, but there are situations worth mentioning to your stylist, or reasons to postpone — for the health of your hair and scalp, and for the result itself.
If your scalp shows active inflammation, irritation, sores or significant dandruff, tight pinning and braiding can make it worse — it's better to treat the scalp first in that case. Very damaged, dry or brittle hair holds a lasting updo less well, and tension can weaken it further. Also let us know about recent colouring, allergies or a sensitive scalp — we'll choose a gentler technique.
Important for braids and plaits: strands pulled too tight, repeated regularly, can lead to what's known as traction alopecia (weakened hair along the hairline and temples from constant tension). For an occasional, one-day updo, this risk is minimal — but your stylist always keeps tension at a safe level, and you should let her know if anything feels uncomfortable.
Advanced updos / braided styles
"Occasion hairstyle" covers several different things. Here's how they differ — and what suits what:
the longest-lasting, for the big day
not a quick styling job before heading out — it takes time and a consultation
a decorative accent or a full hairstyle
if pulled too tight, they strain the scalp — your stylist keeps an eye on tension
a quick finish for the evening
won't replace an elaborate wedding hairstyle with a veil and braided elements
The wedding set
For weddings and larger occasions, your hairstyle and makeup form one project, not two separate services. Together, we choose the intensity and mood so they complement each other — a delicate, romantic updo pairs differently with makeup than a bold, evening finish. It's best to plan them as a set and see the full look together at the trial.
The occasion hairstyle + makeup set makes an elegant gift for a wedding, an eighteenth birthday or an anniversary — also available as a voucher, redeemable at any of our salons.
Not sure what to choose? That's normal — we work out most occasions together, in person. Bring your inspiration photos (even contradictory ones) and a photo of your outfit; based on these, we'll suggest the form that genuinely suits you and the event.
What to bring
The more details you bring to your consultation or trial, the better we can match the hairstyle to you. Here's what we work with:
A key accessory for the bride — how it's secured shapes the entire updo.
Dla kogoBring your own veil to the trial to see how it sits with the hairstyle.
Headpieces, combs, pearls, decorative clips — woven or pinned into the updo.
Dla kogoRomantic and floral hairstyles, photo shoots, outdoor events.
Photos of hairstyles, dresses and full looks — a starting point for the conversation about direction.
Dla kogoAny occasion; bring even contradictory ideas, and we'll narrow them down together.
Plaits and braids woven into an updo, or forming the whole hairstyle.
Dla kogoRomantic, boho and festival styling, outdoor photo shoots.
Fact: Some accessories (such as fresh flowers or unusual decorative pieces) need to be planned in advance — mention them when booking so we can allow the right amount of time.

Occasion updos and braids are an aesthetic hairstyling treatment — not a medical one. It's performed by a hair stylist. Results and how long they last depend on your hair type, condition, length and density. This text is for informational purposes.
