Professional styling is a hairstyle made for one occasion: soft waves, springy curls, a sleek finish or an elegant updo — fixed so it looks fresh in the first photo and just as good at the last dance. It's not the same job as an everyday blow-dry.
It's about durability, movement and a finish that survives hugs, dancing and hours under chandelier light. At J'adore Instytut, styling is done by an experienced hair stylist. For key events, especially weddings, we do a trial updo beforehand — so there are no surprises on the big day. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your visit.

"Occasion styling" covers several different things. Blow-drying shapes loose hair — soft waves, springy curls, a sleek finish, or added volume for a "wow" effect without pinning it up. An updo is gathered or half-up hair: buns, plaited accents, elegant rolls, romantic face-framing strands. A wedding updo is a category of its own — the most detailed, built around the dress, veil and a whole day on your feet.
The difference between an everyday blow-dry and occasion styling is simple: durability and how well it photographs. A home-done wave only needs to look good for a morning; an evening style needs to survive hugs, dancing, warm venues and hours under lights — and still look good in photos at midnight. That's why we choose different techniques, products and setting methods.
How it works
A hairstyle holds its shape because of hydrogen bonds inside the hair — the weakest of keratin's bonds, loosened by water and rebuilt as the hair dries. A wet strand is soft and pliable precisely because these bonds are temporarily broken. As hair dries wound around a roller, brush or curling iron, the bonds re-form in the new shape — and the hair "remembers" the style it's been given. That's why good styling starts with controlled wetting and drying of sections into a specific shape, not by running a hot tool over dry hair.
The same mechanism explains why a hairstyle drops after a few hours — moisture in the air loosens the bonds again, and rain, heat or a warm, crowded room do this especially efficiently. A style built to last a whole event works on three levels at once: products, which leave a thin, flexible film on the strand and slow down moisture getting in; construction, meaning hidden support points — pins, bands, plaited sections — that carry the weight of the style instead of leaving it to hair tension alone; and finally, setting with hairspray, which locks everything in place. An updo that lasts until the last dance holds not because it's sprayed harder, but because it's been built properly. That's also why a style meant to last for many hours is planned differently from waves for a two-hour photoshoot: the longer it needs to hold, the more work goes into construction rather than the finish alone.
Interesting fact: hydrogen bonds are behind the famous "bad hair morning" after falling asleep with wet hair — the hair dried in a random shape and set exactly into it, and the only fix is to wet it again. In the salon, the same physics work in your favour: a strand dried into a planned shape holds that shape just as stubbornly.

Occasion styling is mainly a women's hairstyle service and this page focuses on that — because it's women's hair we most often pin up, curl and shape for big days. The most important occasion is, of course, the wedding: we design the Bride's hairstyle around the dress, veil, accessories and face shape, and for the most important events we always suggest a trial updo in advance.
The areas we support
And men? For weddings, galas or photoshoots, men want to look great too — and we help there as well. Men's styling means carefully shaping the hair and, if needed, tidying the beard line, so the hairstyle holds throughout the event and photographs well. Classic wedding updos, though, are mainly a women's hairstyle category — for men, we work on styling, not updos.
The areas we support
Interesting fact: the most durable updos aren't actually made on freshly washed hair. Hair a day after washing is slightly heavier and "obeys" pins and curling irons better — which is why stylists often ask you not to come straight from a shampoo for a large updo. Perfectly clean, "slippery" hair can slip out of even the most beautiful bun.
Trial updo
For weddings and other once-in-a-lifetime events, the trial updo is the most important part of the whole process. It's a scheduled visit where we calmly create your final hairstyle — ideally with the veil or accessory you plan to wear — and check three things:
Skipping the trial before a wedding is the most common route to morning stress and a hairstyle that "just didn't come out right". On the wedding day, there's no time for adjustments or changing the concept — the clock is ticking and the photographer is waiting. Without a trial, your stylist sees your hair in action for the first time exactly when there's the least room for surprises. A good salon will suggest a trial well in advance for a wedding — it's not an upsell, it's protecting your most important day.
The visit
For styling without a wedding, it's simpler: a short consultation to agree the occasion and look, choosing the technique (curling iron, straightener, blow-dry or updo), the styling itself, and setting. It's usually a single relaxed visit — you leave ready to go straight to your event.

The most common last-minute request: "please come up with something, the wedding's in three days." It's possible — but then we're working without a safety net. That's why it's really worth booking a trial well ahead of time. The calmest wedding mornings are the ones where I know exactly what I'm doing, because we've already done it together once.

What to expect
Most important: styling is an occasion result, not a week-long one. Blow-drying and curls are designed for one day or evening — they disappear after washing, and that's how it's meant to be. A professional updo lasts the whole event, often overnight too, but it's still a hairstyle "for now", not a lasting change.
After the event, you simply take the hairstyle down and wash it — all products and pins wash out without a trace. If it was a large, heavily set updo, it's worth taking your time with the first wash, combing thoroughly under water to gently remove any leftover hairspray without pulling at tangled strands.
How to make it through the day in your hairstyle
How long a style lasts isn't only down to your stylist — a lot depends on what you do with the hairstyle for the rest of the day. A few simple habits mean an updo or waves make it to the last dance in one piece, and taking it down in the evening won't end in a tangled mess.
Constantly adjusting and running your fingers through it is the fastest way to loosen an updo and drop waves. Let the hairstyle do its job — face-framing strands are meant to fall naturally, that's part of the look.
Strong wind and rain can undo even a well-set style. For an outdoor photoshoot or ceremony, it's worth having some light hairspray and a few pins on hand for a quick fix.
On a hot, humid day, sleek finishes and straight hair lose their shape fastest and start to frizz. For a summer wedding, it's worth choosing a hairstyle that handles humidity well — we'll advise which one.
A professional updo is built precisely so you can dance and hug your guests without worry. A little softening towards the end of the evening only adds natural, relaxed charm to the style.
Pins hold the construction together — don't take them out during the event, even if "something feels off". Remove an accessory or veil carefully, ideally with someone's help, so you don't pull on your hair.
After the party, take out all the pins first, comb through with your fingers, and take your time with the first wash, using conditioner. A heavily set updo benefits from gentle combing under water — that way nothing tangles or breaks.
