A cut for your face
“it styles itself”

A good haircut isn't about shortening hair — it's about designing a style for your face, your hair structure and your lifestyle. The same length, styled differently, can take years off your face, slim it down, or add volume your hair never had before.

That's why your visit doesn't start with scissors — it starts with a conversation: how you wear your hair day to day, how much time you have for it in the morning, what you like about it, and what you'd like to hide. At J'adore Instytut, haircuts are performed by an experienced hair stylist. We do everything from a discreet trim to a change of shape and added volume, right through to a full transformation — always with an eye on how the style looks not just as you leave the salon, but when you style it yourself at home. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your visit.

SCALP & HAIR

A haircut is a design, not just shorter length

The word "haircut" covers very different things. A trim refreshes what you already have — it removes damaged, split ends and restores the shape, barely touching the length. A restyle rebuilds the hairstyle: a different cutting line, layering, a fringe, more or less volume in certain areas. A transformation is a deliberate, bigger change — from long to short, a new character altogether, sometimes combined with colour.

That's why our first conversation in the salon doesn't start with length. It starts with the question: "how do you want to feel with this hair?" Only then do we choose a shape based on your face shape, hair structure and density, and how much time you actually want to spend styling it. That's the difference between "shorter hair" and a hairstyle that works for you.

How it works

How it works

The way a hairstyle falls is decided mainly by weight. Every centimetre of length pulls the strand downward, flattens the curl and presses hair closer to the head — which is why the same hair looks thicker and curlier once it's shorter, even though not a single strand has been added. So the stylist works less with length and more with weight distribution: deciding where the hair should stay heavier and fall in a smooth line, and where it should be lightened so it lifts on its own. This is controlled by the angle at which the stylist holds each section away from the head while cutting — the higher it's held, the shorter the layers underneath become, and the more volume is left at the top.

The second variable is hair spring-back. A wet strand is stretched and looks longer; as it dries, it shortens and curls — with wavy or curly hair, the difference can be several centimetres. An experienced stylist factors this in from the start, or deliberately cuts dry hair to see exactly where each strand settles. Then there's the natural growth direction — cowlicks, a strand that always sticks out in the same spot, the hairline around your face — which can't be argued with, but can be worked around with the right shape. That's why a good cut "styles itself" at home: it doesn't fight your hair, it guides it where it wants to go anyway.

Three levels of the hairstyle in cross-section: the top layer you can see, the middle layers that build the shape beneath it, and deepest of all the roots at the scalp. The scissors work along the whole length, and the line of the cut decides the shape of the layers. The scalp stays outside the working area.

Good to know: hair grows roughly one centimetre a month — about twelve centimetres a year — and no cosmetic product can speed that up. That's why a big transformation carries real weight: the journey from a short bob back to shoulder-length hair isn't a matter of weeks, it takes years of patience.

Women's haircuts

Who we style, and how we choose

For her

Women's haircuts — what does gender have to do with it?

Women's haircuts are our specialty, and this is what this page covers. We work across the full spectrum of lengths and structures — from fine, "flyaway" hair that a cut can add volume to, right through to thick, heavy hair that needs layering to lighten it. The goal is always the same: a shape that suits your face, one you can style yourself at home.

The areas we support

  1. choosing a cutting line for your face shape — slimming, softening features, "opening up" your eyes;
  2. layering and texturising suited to your hair's density and type (straight, wavy, curly);
  3. a fringe chosen for your forehead and style — from curtain to full;
  4. a step-by-step transformation, if you're planning a bigger change.
For him

Women's haircuts — who is this service for?

And men? Men's haircuts — with different technique, clippers, fades and beard work — are handled as a separate service on a dedicated page. If you're looking for a men's cut, visit the men's haircut page — we describe everything there honestly for men's hair and style, rather than adding it here as an afterthought.

The areas we support

  1. classic and modern men's cuts, fades and contours;
  2. beard shaping and a consistent beard line;
  3. details and variants — on the men's haircut page.

Good to know: a well-chosen cut can "add" more volume than any product — it's not a cosmetic but the shape itself and how the hair's weight is distributed that decide whether a hairstyle lifts at the root or falls flat. Hence the stylists' rule: scissors first, hairdryer second.

Cutting and hair condition

Why regularity pays off

Even the most beautiful shape can't hold up on damaged, "burnt-out" ends — dull, split ends make the whole hairstyle look neglected, regardless of length. That's why regular trims aren't a loss of length — they're an investment in a healthy look:

  1. Split ends "climb higher"An unremoved split end keeps breaking further up the strand — the longer you wait, the more you eventually have to cut off. A regular refresh saves length; it doesn't shorten it.
  2. The shape "spreads out"As hair grows, the hairstyle loses its original line. Trimming restores it before the cut starts to look uneven.
  3. Cutting supports hair careOn hair heavily affected by colouring or lightening, it's sometimes best to cut it first and then rebuild it — see Olaplex treatment and hair Botox.
Red flag: a drastic transformation "on the spot", without a consultation

Walking into a salon and asking to "cut it all short" without a moment's conversation is the most common route to regret afterwards. A big change of shape — especially from long to short, or a new fringe — is practically irreversible in a single day: hair grows slowly. A good stylist, faced with that request, will pause and ask about your lifestyle, your everyday styling habits, and your absolute "no matter what, I don't want this". That's not delay — it's protection against a transformation you'd otherwise spend months growing out.

What to expect during your visit

  1. Consultationwe talk about your face shape, hair structure and density, your lifestyle, and how much time you have in the morning for styling. This is where we take an idea "from your phone" and adapt it to your hair.
  2. Wash and preparationwe cleanse the hair and scalp and choose care suited to its condition.
  3. Cuttingwe design the shape: the line, layering, a possible fringe. For bigger changes, we show you the result in stages.
  4. Blow-dry and stylingwe style your hair so you can see how it should look, and show you how to recreate it at home.
  5. Everyday tipswhich products and technique to use in the morning so the cut "works" between visits.

What to expect

No surprises

Most important: a fresh cut looks its best only after the first wash at home. Right after the salon, the hairstyle is styled "to the millimetre" — that's the ideal version. After you style it yourself for the first time, you'll see how it really behaves day to day, and that's when the cut truly "settles in".

  1. Faza 1.after your visithairstyle fully styled and shaped — the "showcase" version
  2. Faza 2.the first few daysyou get used to the new shape and learn to style it at home
  3. Faza 3.following weeksthe cut works nicely; the shape gradually loses its sharp lines
  4. Faza 4.refresha trim restores the shape without losing length
The day after a visit, I most often hear "it didn't come out like this at home". That's completely normal — in the salon, I dry the hair under control, with access to the roots from underneath. That's why, during styling, I always show you where to direct the hairdryer and which brush to use — after two or three tries at home, it comes together without a problem.
From the stylist's chair

What's normal right after a haircut

  • the hairstyle looks perfectly styled straight from the salon — at home, it takes a little practice to recreate the effect;
  • a fresh fringe or shorter shape may feel "too new" for a few days — that's just a matter of getting used to it;
  • after the first wash, hair settles slightly into its own pattern — this is often when it looks most natural.

Your hairstyle and your lifestyle

What keeps it in shape

How long a cut looks good depends not just on the scissors, but on what you do with your hair between visits. A few simple habits can noticeably extend how fresh your hairstyle looks.

  1. Regular trims

    keep a rhythm

    A steady rhythm of trimming the ends keeps the shape — and your hair's healthy look — intact. It's the simplest way to make sure your hairstyle always looks "fresh from the salon", not just for the first week.

  2. Hairdryer and brush

    learn the technique

    The direction you dry your hair and the brush you choose decide the volume at the roots. During styling, we show you the technique — at home, a few tries are enough to recreate the salon result.

  3. Straighteners and curling irons

    with heat protection

    Daily high-heat styling dries out the ends and speeds up breakage. A heat-protectant spray and a sensible temperature protect the cutting line between visits.

  4. End care

    oil on the ends

    A light oil on just the ends hydrates and adds shine, and healthy ends hold their shape longer. Well-nourished ends mean a hairstyle that still looks good right before your next visit.

  5. Sleep and friction

    a smooth pillowcase

    A cotton pillowcase and sleeping with wet hair both encourage tangling and frizz. A silk or satin pillowcase, plus hair dried before bed, helps your hairstyle wake up in shape.

  6. Cutting and colour

    combine visits

    Fresh colour on a well-styled cutting line looks fuller and deeper. If you're planning colouring, it's worth booking it together with your haircut — see colouring.

When it's worth waiting, or taking a more cautious approach

Haircuts are a pleasant, safe service, but in a few situations it's worth waiting or approaching a change more carefully:

  1. Irritated, damaged or itchy scalpwith significant irritation, we wait until it heals, so washing and combing aren't uncomfortable.
  2. Very weakened, brittle hairsometimes it's regeneration first, and a bigger change of shape only once the hair has recovered its condition.
  3. A big transformation squeezed into a rusha radical change is best planned with time for a proper consultation, not squeezed between other tasks.
  4. Straight after heavy lighteningwith very damaged ends, we cut and nourish them first, before designing a new shape.

From the stylist's chair

The thing most often overlooked: the real time available for styling. A client shows me her dream hairstyle, one that needs 20 minutes with a curling iron every morning — then admits she barely has time for coffee. In that case, I honestly suggest a similar shape that styles itself. The most beautiful cut is the one you can actually recreate at home.

This isn't a complete list — we'll discuss your hair type, scalp condition and ideas for change individually during your consultation before cutting.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionHow do I choose a hairstyle for my face shape?
    AnswerThis is where the consultation starts: one cutting line will slim a round face, another will soften a square jaw, and yet another will "open up" your eyes. The stylist will assess your facial proportions, hair structure and style, then suggest a shape — often close to what you had in your photo, but fine-tuned for you.
  2. QuestionI brought a photo of a hairstyle — will I look the same?
    AnswerA photo is a great starting point, but the result depends on your hair: its density, curl and smoothness. The same shape falls differently on a different hair type. That's why we treat the photo as a direction and adjust it so it sits beautifully on your hair specifically.
  3. QuestionWill a haircut add volume?
    AnswerYes — often more than any product could. The right layering and weight distribution make a hairstyle lift at the roots. It's a matter of shape, not cosmetics.
  4. QuestionI'm scared to cut my length — what should I do?
    AnswerYou don't have to decide on a big change straight away. For bigger transformations, we work in stages and show you the result as we go. Often, even a change of shape (a fringe, layering) without losing length is enough to make a hairstyle look completely different.
