Why the eye area ages first in men
The skin around the eye is only a few tenths of a millimetre thick — several times thinner than on the cheek. It has no sebaceous glands and little subcutaneous fat. It also works non-stop: you blink several thousand times a day, laugh, frown, stare at screens. Add stress, irregular sleep, alcohol, and — in men — a habit of skipping moisturiser. The result is predictable: the first wrinkles, the first dark circles, the first swelling — all appear here first.
Dark circles are usually caused by two mechanisms at once: blood vessels showing through thin skin, and a hollow that forms as tissue loses volume and elasticity. A moisturiser can't reach a blood vessel. Good sleep won't rebuild lost collagen. That's why mesotherapy — precise by nature — makes sense here.
What mesotherapy actually does in this area
Mesotherapy delivers a formula — or a blend of formulas — via micro-injections. A fine needle places it very shallowly, directly where it needs to work. Around the eyes, we use ingredients chosen for a specific goal:
- Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid — intense hydration, filling of fine lines and improved skin elasticity, without the plumping effect of a filler.
- Polynucleotides and exosomes — these stimulate your own fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin. The result builds gradually, not instantly.
- Antioxidants and peptides — these reduce oxidative stress in the tissue and help minimise the appearance of vascular dark circles.
- Revitalising cocktails — amino acids, vitamins and trace elements that nourish the skin from within, when topical care alone isn't enough.
The right ingredient depends on what brings you in: dark circles, tear troughs, loss of firmness, swelling, crow's feet — each of these needs a different approach. That's why the first step is a consultation, not a treatment. The doctor assesses the eye area, sets a goal, and only then selects the formula and technique.
What to expect: injections, results, timing
Eye area mesotherapy is a series of micro-injections with a fine needle — each one lasts a split second of discomfort, not pain. Before the treatment, we apply a numbing cream, which reduces sensation in the area over about fifteen minutes. Most men say after their first session that they expected it to be worse.
Mild redness and small bumps at the injection sites are typical afterwards — they fade within a few to several hours. A small bruise may appear, since the eye area is heavily vascularised. This isn't a reason to clear your diary for a week — but perhaps don't plan an important dinner the same evening. By the next day, you're back to normal.
The effects of eye area mesotherapy build up over time. After the first session, you'll notice better hydration and a softer look to the skin. Full results — improved firmness, reduced dark circles, a shallower tear trough — build over a series of sessions, usually spaced a few weeks apart. The number of sessions and the interval between them depend on your skin condition and your goal. The doctor determines this after assessing the area. There's no single schedule for everyone.
Mesotherapy or filler under the eye?
This is a question many men ask — rightly so, because the difference matters. Mesotherapy and hyaluronic acid filler are two different tools for two different problems:
Eye area mesotherapy
when to choose it
- dark circles from dehydration and poor microcirculation
- fine lines, loss of firmness
- tired, dull-looking skin in this area
- you want to improve skin quality and condition
Filler (hyaluronic acid)
when to choose it
- a visible tear trough with volume loss
- a deep hollow under the eye
- results visible sooner
The two treatments often complement each other — mesotherapy first improves tissue quality, then filler, if needed, corrects volume. The decision rests with the doctor, who assesses your eye area at consultation. There's no right or wrong choice in advance — only the right match for your specific concern.
Who is this for, and when to start
There's no single "right age". Men in their thirties to fifties choose eye area mesotherapy — some preventively, as soon as dark circles or fine lines appear, others after years of a problem creams no longer help. The earlier you start working on this area, the easier it is to maintain results — and the less intensive treatment you'll need.
- Dark circles that don't fade with rest, regardless of how much sleep you get.
- A tear trough — the characteristic hollow running from the inner corner of the eye down the cheek.
- Crow's feet around the eyes that have started showing even without a smile.
- Under-eye swelling in the morning that fades slowly, or not at all.
- A generally tired-looking face, with no clear medical cause.
