Hairtalk is a branded tape-in system — flat wefts of hair mounted on a thin, double-sided tape. Your stylist clips them close to the root, "sandwiching" a section of your own hair between two tapes. The mechanics are exactly the same as in classic tape hair extensions — we describe that step by step there, so we won't repeat it here.
The difference you're paying for lies elsewhere: in the brand and the quality. Hairtalk is a well-regarded, recognisable system — strands known for their durability, natural movement and how well they hold up to repeated use. In plain terms: the same set of strands, well cared for, can go back on your head many times over successive re-tapings.
To be honest: extensions are extensions. Hairtalk won't make your hair grow, and it won't treat hair loss — it gives you instant length and density, which you then maintain with touch-ups and care. That's its strength, not a drawback: you get the result straight away.
How it works
A single Hairtalk strand is a flat layer of hair mounted on a strip of double-sided adhesive tape. Your stylist separates a very thin section of your own hair and closes it between two strands — one goes underneath, the other on top, and the two tapes bond together around your hair. Nothing here is heated or clamped onto a single strand: your hair passes freely between the layers of adhesive, and the bond stays flat, lying close to the head rather than sticking out.
The whole thing holds thanks to weight distribution. The weight of the extensions doesn't hang from a few strands — it's spread across the entire bonded strip, so the root isn't pulled at a single point. The adhesive is sensitive to oil and strong detergents — this isn't a fussy care rule, it's chemistry: oily substances weaken the adhesive layer, which is why we keep oils and rich masks away from the root. And because your hair keeps growing, the bond moves away from the scalp over time; the lower it slides, the longer the lever arm acting on the hair, and the easier it is for tangling to occur — hence the rhythm of touch-ups every few weeks.
Good to know: the tape in tape-in systems relies on pressure-activated adhesive, not heat — that's why your stylist presses the bond firmly rather than warming it. The bond keeps strengthening for many hours after your visit, which is why the advice to avoid "hot steam and soaking for the first 24 hours" has a real basis, not just as a precaution.

The most common mistake that shortens the life of the tapes: oils, conditioners and masks applied at the root/bonds. Oil dissolves the tape adhesive — apply care products only to the lengths and ends, away from the attachment point. Second mistake: heavy soaking and hot steam in the first few days after application — let the tapes bond fully before heading to the pool, sauna or a long hot shower.

Home care
With branded strands, it's home care, not the system itself, that determines whether your hair looks good for several months or matts quickly. The rule is simple: gentle, and no oil at the root.
Wash with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo — harsh detergents weaken the tape. Wash gently, moving from top to bottom; don't "scrub" the bonds.
Most important: no oil or rich masks at the root. Oil dissolves the adhesive and the strands slip. Moisturise only the lengths, avoiding the attachment area.
Use an extension-safe brush (soft bristles), brushing from the ends upward, holding the strand at the root to avoid pulling on the bonds.
Sleep with dry hair, ideally loosely braided. A silk pillowcase reduces friction and tangling.
Straighteners and curling irons — yes, but with heat protection and away from the tapes themselves. High heat directly on a bond shortens its lifespan.
Chlorine, salt and hot steam aren't kind to the tapes. Avoid them in the first few days; after that, tie your hair up and rinse thoroughly after swimming.
