A treatment room at J'adoreMASSAGE & SPA (~30)
Some days aren't about one tight muscle. They're about a whole body that hasn't truly rested in a long time — and a mind that won't switch off. Lomi Lomi is a Hawaiian "loving hands" massage (in Hawaiian, lomi means "to knead, to stroke with care").
Its signature feature is long, continuous, flowing movements of the forearms and hands — moving through the body like ocean waves, with no abrupt breaks, in one hypnotic rhythm. With warm oil, enveloping and holistic: tension leaves not just the muscles, but the mind too, and you slip into what Hawaiians simply call "flow". It's one of the most soothing massages we know. At J'adore Instytut it's performed by a massage therapist / therapist. It also makes a beautiful gift for someone who "never has time for themselves". Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your first visit.
single visit or regular series — time for yourself
How it works
Lomi Lomi comes from Hawaii, where massage was part of a ritual of caring for body and spirit. Its essence lies in long, continuous, flowing movements performed with the whole forearm and hand — the therapist doesn't lift away from the body every few seconds. Instead they guide one smooth movement that flows from the back to the shoulders, from the hips down the legs. This is where the association with ocean waves comes from: there are no sharp boundaries, only an unbroken flow.
For the nervous system, this rhythm and continuity send a clear signal: it's safe here, you can slow down. The body lets go not section by section, but as a whole — and this holistic quality is what sets Lomi Lomi apart from massages focused on a single knot of tension. What eases isn't just the physical tightness in the shoulders or back, but the tension built up "inside": the breath lengthens, the mind quietens, and a characteristic feeling of "melting" sets in.

Fun fact: the name lomi lomi is simply the Hawaiian word lomi — "to knead, stroke, massage with care" — repeated. In Hawaiian, doubling a word strengthens its meaning, so lomi lomi literally means a massage performed with exceptional care and tenderness — hence the common name "massage of loving hands".
What sets Lomi Lomi apart
If you already know a classic relaxation massage, Lomi Lomi will surprise you with its quality of movement. It's not short stroking and kneading — it's:
A relaxation massage calms the body with long, gentle hand movements and can take various forms. Lomi Lomi is a specific Hawaiian tradition: flowing, uninterrupted forearm movements "like the ocean", a strong focus on rhythm and continuity, and a holistic, enveloping character throughout the session. If you're looking for basic calm without the exotic framing, start with a relaxation massage. If you want the full ritual of "flow" — this is Lomi Lomi.
Ideal for
The women's zone and the men's zone
Lomi Lomi for women is most often a conscious choice of the "flow ritual" — an hour to set down the "mental load" and let the continuous, wave-like rhythm of the hands take over. Its enveloping, holistic character makes it more than a muscle massage — it's a moment of genuine respite.
The areas we support
Lomi Lomi for men is increasingly a way to achieve a whole-body "reset" — coming down from high gear when tension settles not in one place, but across the whole body: neck, shoulders, back extensors. Its smooth, rhythmic character allows real rest, away from screens and hurry.
The areas we support
For two: Lomi Lomi can also be experienced as a couples' version — two tables side by side, one shared rhythm of calm. It's one of the loveliest gifts for anniversaries and Valentine's Day. You can read more about rituals for two on our SPA Rituals page.
MASSAGE & SPA (~30)
Lomi Lomi is gentle and safe for most people, but in a few situations we simply postpone the visit until the situation has passed — or ask for a prior consultation with a doctor.
This isn't an exhaustive list — if you have any doubts about your health, or an allergy to oil ingredients, let us know when booking or at the start of the visit. We'd rather postpone the massage by a few days than proceed against good judgement.
What to expect
The most common reaction to Lomi Lomi: "I didn't know I could melt like that". That's thanks to the rhythm and continuity — when the movement never breaks, the mind simply lets go. If you'd prefer firmer, more targeted work on a specific knot of tension, mention it at the start — we can focus more on certain areas or suggest a classic massage instead.

After the massage
Lomi Lomi requires no recovery — you go straight back to your day. But a few small things help the feeling of calm and deep relaxation last significantly longer:
After the massage, reach for water and drink it steadily through the rest of the day. Good hydration helps the body "complete" its recovery and reduces any heaviness after a generously oiled massage.
If you can, don't dive straight back into your to-do list. A calm evening, warm tea, no screens — that's when the sense of "flow" works best.
The evening after Lomi Lomi is the best time to sleep — the body is relaxed and the nervous system deeply calm. Many clients sleep exceptionally well afterwards.
Lomi Lomi uses warm oil generously. Give your skin a little time to absorb it — it's best to wait until evening or the next day for a long bath or a strong exfoliation.
Intense effort right after the massage reignites the very tension we've just calmed. A gentle walk — fine; a hard training session — better left for the next day.
Nothing undoes the immediate effect faster than diving straight back into emails, calls and to-do lists. Give yourself at least a short buffer before returning to full speed.
Lomi Lomi massage (Hawaiian)
All three share the same goal — deep relaxation — but each has a different character and tradition. Here's a quick guide to match your needs:
wave-like rhythm, "flow", holistic approach
not designed for firm, targeted work on a "hard" knot of tension
an aromatic ritual with a firmer touch
less of the hypnotic, uninterrupted "wave" rhythm than Lomi Lomi
basic calm without the exotic framing
a foundation — without a specific tradition or signature wave rhythm
Combine with
Lomi Lomi fits beautifully into a broader "day for yourself". Here are the most natural combinations — details for each treatment are on their own pages:
It's best to decide the order and spacing with your massage therapist on the day — we'll arrange them so one treatment reinforces the other, rather than tiring you out.
A simple rule of thumb: want the hypnotic "wave" rhythm and the full flow ritual → Lomi Lomi. Prefer an aromatic massage with a firmer touch → Balinese. Looking for basic calm without exotic framing → relaxation. You can also alternate between them in a series — details for each are on their own pages.
Variants and aromatherapy
Lomi Lomi comes in several forms — they differ mainly in rhythm intensity, scent and added warmth, not in the Hawaiian wave technique itself. We choose the variant to suit your mood and needs; your massage therapist will also suggest one at the start of the visit.
The full ritual: flowing forearm and hand movements moving through the whole body, generously applied with warm oil — the signature "flow" experience.

The same wave-like character, but at a calmer, even more soothing pace — less about working the muscles, more about pure calm.
Dla kogoFor a first visit, for maximum relaxation, and for significant nervous overload.
A Hawaiian ritual enhanced with a carefully chosen aroma — scent becomes part of the calming effect.
Dla kogoFor when you want to shut out other stimuli and sink even deeper into the state of flow.
Lavender = deep calm and better sleep; citrus = mood lift and energy; monoi/coconut note = a warm, "island" feel.
Dla kogoLavender for the evening and sleep, citrus to lift your mood, monoi for a full exotic feel.
The same Hawaiian ritual experienced together — with someone close, in the same room, at the same time.
Dla kogoA gift for an anniversary, Valentine's Day, or a shared moment of respite.
Fact: You don't need to know anything about oils or Hawaiian tradition. Just tell us what you need — deep calm, energy, or simply an exotic moment for yourself — and we'll choose the rest for you.
