MASSAGE & SPA (~30)

Deep release
“hot stones”

Some days ordinary touch simply isn't enough — tension in your shoulders is so "set in concrete" that the muscles won't let go, and you're cold and can't seem to warm up. This is where heat comes in.

Hot stone massage uses warmed, smooth basalt stones placed on the body and glided across it with warm oil. Soothing heat penetrates the muscles, dilates blood vessels, improves circulation and helps tension "melt away" deeper and faster than hands alone can manage. It's one of the most soothing massage variants: it warms you from within, quietens the mind and wraps the senses. At J'adore Instytut, the treatment is performed by a massage therapist / therapist. We always adjust the heat to your comfort — it should feel pleasant and enveloping, never scorching. It also makes a lovely gift: a hot stone massage voucher says "warm up and rest". You'll find the shared basics of relaxation massage on a separate page — here we focus on what makes this version special: the heat.

How it works

How it works

The secret to this massage is basalt heat. Smooth, warmed volcanic stones hold pleasant heat for a long time and release it evenly wherever they touch the body. The therapist places them at key points (such as along the spine) and glides them across the skin with warm oil — combining classic, flowing hand movements with the deep, warming touch of stone.

Heat does something pressure alone cannot: it dilates blood vessels, improves circulation and helps muscles let go faster and more deeply. Tense fibres that would resist an ordinary massage simply "soften" under the warmth. On top of that comes a purely sensory effect — enveloping warmth that calms the nervous system and gives a feeling of soothing relaxation from within.

This is a version of relaxation massage in which heat is the main tool. If you'd like to understand the fundamentals of calming massage — how it works with the nervous system, what to expect — you'll find them on the relaxation massage page. Here, we expand on what basalt adds.

Three layers in cross-section: the skin at the surface, the fascia together with the subcutaneous tissue beneath it, and deepest of all the muscles, where tension gathers. The heat of the stones penetrates the skin and the fascia, releasing the muscles more deeply than touch alone. The massage therapist matches the pressure to your tolerance.
  1. Neck and shouldershours at a screen, shoulders pulled up to the ears
  2. Between the shoulder bladesdesk work, the back held closed
  3. Lower backsitting, lifting, long drives

Did you know? The stones used are basalt — a dense, fine-grained volcanic rock that holds heat exceptionally well and releases it slowly and evenly. That's why not just any stone will do: basalt "warms" gently and steadily, and its smooth surface glides across the skin like an extension of the therapist's hand.

Ideal for

Ideal for

  1. "Set-in-concrete" shoulders and neckhard tension that won't budge with ordinary touch; heat releases it more deeply.
  2. Chronic stress and exhaustionwhen your mind "won't switch off" and you're craving total warmth and calm.
  3. Always feeling cold and the colder monthsfor anyone who feels the cold easily; a favourite autumn-winter variant.
  4. Tense back from desk work, driving and trainingheat "unfreezes" stiff muscles faster than hands alone.
  5. Sleep difficulties and a need for deep relaxationwarming the body helps you come down from "high gear" and sleep better.
  6. A gifta voucher for a warming ritual or a hot stone massage for two.

How is it different from a regular relaxation massage

A regular relaxation massage calms with long, flowing hand movements. Hot stone massage adds basalt heat, which releases muscles more deeply and quickly, and gives that unique feeling of warmth from within. If you're deciding between the two — and want to understand the basics of relaxation itself — start with the relaxation massage page, then come back here for the "with heat" version.

Women's and men's needs

What to expect

For her

Heat that finally melts your shoulders

Hot stone massage for women is most often a ritual of deep warmth and calm — a break from mental load, recovery after a hectic week, and relief for anyone who's "always cold". The enveloping heat of basalt is the heart of the experience: it dissolves shoulder tension and lets you finally drift off.

The areas we support

  1. warming tense shoulders, neck and back — the classic "carrying the world on your shoulders";
  2. soothing heat for anyone who feels the cold easily — a favourite variant for autumn and winter;
  3. optional aromatherapy: lavender for deep calm and sleep, citrus for mood;
  4. massage as a recovery ritual during periods of greater overload and fatigue.
For him

A reset for hard muscles — not just for sport

Hot stone massage for men is increasingly a way to "reset" hard tension that settles in the neck, shoulders and spinal erector muscles — from desk work, driving and strength training. Basalt heat "unfreezes" stiff muscles more effectively than pressure alone, which is why it's a good choice when an ordinary massage doesn't reach deep enough.

The areas we support

  1. neck, shoulders and back — hard tension from desk work, driving, training;
  2. deeper muscle warming as part of post-exertion recovery;
  3. firmer, more decisive hand pressure available on request;
  4. zero downtime — you go straight back to your day after the massage.

For two: hot stone massage also comes in a couples' version — two tables side by side, a shared moment of warmth and calm. It's one of the most popular "winter" gifts for anniversaries and holidays. We cover shared rituals for two in more detail under SPA Rituals.

When to postpone the massage

Sensitivity to heat

Hot stone massage is soothing and safe for most people, but because heat is at its core, a few conditions call for caution — in these cases we postpone the visit or ask for a prior consultation with your doctor. You'll also find the general safety rules shared across all massage variants on the relaxation massage page.

Red flag — extra caution with heat
  • Diabetes and neuropathy (impaired sensation) — reduced sensitivity to heat makes discomfort more likely; a doctor's consultation first and a very cautious approach to heat.
  • Varicose veins, thrombosis or suspected thrombosis — heat dilates blood vessels; massage is contraindicated with thromboembolic disease, and with varicose veins we avoid the affected areas — a doctor's consultation first.
  • Unstable hypertension / cardiac conditions — warming and stimulated circulation put a load on the cardiovascular system; consult your doctor before the visit.
  • Fever, infection and acute inflammation — a cold, a low-grade fever, a recent injury or swelling: we wait until you've recovered.
  • Pregnancy — we don't recommend a warming hot stone massage during pregnancy; ask separately about a safe massage during pregnancy.
  • Wounds, recent scars, skin changes and irritation in the area to be massaged — we avoid these until they've healed.

This isn't an exhaustive list — if you have any doubts about your health or your sensitivity to heat, tell us when booking or at the start of your visit. We'd rather postpone the massage by a few days or choose a gentler variant than warm the body against your best interests.

What to expect

What to expect during your visit

  1. Faza 1.starta conversation about tension and heat sensitivity; choice of variant and scent
  2. Faza 2.warmingwarm stones placed on the body — tense muscles start to "soften"
  3. Faza 3.sessionstones and hands work alternately — breathing slows, the body lets go
  4. Faza 4.right aftera feeling of deep warmth and "melting"; often a pleasant drowsiness
  5. Faza 5.that eveningdeeper, calmer sleep; the next day, lighter, less stiff shoulders and neck
Many people ask whether the stones will burn. They won't — a good hot stone massage is pleasant, enveloping heat suited to you, never hot to the point of discomfort. I always check the temperature before touching a stone to your skin, and you let me know at any point whether the heat feels comfortable. Your comfort sets the pace.

After the massage

How to make the effect last

Hot stone massage requires no recovery period — you go straight back to your day. But a few small things help the feeling of warmth, relief and calm last much longer:

  1. Hydration

    drink water after the massage

    Warmth and stimulated circulation make the body more inclined to reach for water. Drink it steadily for the rest of the day — good hydration helps "complete" recovery and reduces any feeling of heaviness.

  2. Rest

    let the warmth settle

    If you can, don't rush straight back into your day. Wrap up in something warm, spend a quiet, screen-free evening — that's when the feeling of warmth and calm works best.

  3. Sleep

    go to bed earlier

    The evening after a warming massage is a great time for sleep — the body is relaxed and warm, and the nervous system is calm. Many clients sleep exceptionally deeply that night.

  4. Sauna and hot baths

    don't overheat that day

    Your body is already warmed up. Adding a sauna or a very hot bath right after the massage can overload circulation — a warm, gentle bath is fine, but intense heat is better saved for another day.

  5. Intense training

    skip it that day

    Intense exertion right after the massage undoes the calm and relaxation we've just achieved. A light walk — yes; a hard workout — better the next day.

  6. Getting back into the swing of things

    don't dive straight back into your phone

    Nothing cancels out the effect faster than an immediate return to emails, calls and your to-do list. Give yourself at least a few dozen minutes of "buffer" before ramping back up.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionDo hot stones burn? How hot are they?
    AnswerThey shouldn't burn. We always adjust the heat to your comfort — it should feel pleasant and enveloping, never bordering on painful. The therapist checks the temperature before touching the stone to your skin, and you let us know at any point whether the heat feels comfortable. We don't work on a "hotter is better" basis.
  2. QuestionHow is this massage different from a regular relaxation massage?
    AnswerRelaxation massage calms with long hand movements; hot stone massage adds basalt heat, which releases muscles more deeply and quickly and gives a feeling of warmth from within. This is the "with heat" version — we describe the basics of relaxation itself on the relaxation massage page.
  3. QuestionWhy does heat release muscles better than hands alone?
    AnswerHeat dilates blood vessels and improves circulation, helping tense muscle fibres soften faster. Tension that would resist an ordinary massage simply lets go under the warmth — hence the feeling that tension "dissolves".
  4. QuestionWhen will I feel the effect?
    AnswerYou'll usually feel soothing warmth and tension relief right after the visit, and the best sleep often comes that same night. Lasting calm and less shoulder stiffness build when you make the massage part of a regular rhythm "for yourself", especially in the colder months.
  5. QuestionI feel sleepy and "melted" after the massage — is that normal?
    AnswerYes, that's a common and welcome reaction — your body is warm and your nervous system has slowed right down. Give yourself a moment, drink some water and, if you can, don't rush back into high gear straight away.
