Warmth of herbal oils
“the mind slows”

A mind that won't slow down, a body "scattered" after a week on the run, skin thirsty for nourishment — this is a state the Indian tradition of Ayurveda calls imbalance, and for centuries has soothed with the same gesture: warm oil and the rhythm of the hands. Ayurvedic massage (Abhyanga) applies generous amounts of warm herbal oil, spread in long, rhythmic movements along the body and along the marma points.

It doesn't "fix" the body mechanically — it wraps you in warmth, "grounds" you and brings deep calm, and skin leaves the session nourished and soft. This is a ritual from another part of the world: the scent of herbs, the warmth of oil, a calm, enveloping touch. At J'adore Instytut, the treatment is performed by a massage therapist. It also makes a beautiful gift — a voucher for an Ayurvedic ritual says "slow down and take care of yourself". Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your first visit.

How it works

How it works

Abhyanga sits at the heart of the Indian Ayurvedic tradition — a full-body massage using generous amounts of warm herbal oil, spread in long, rhythmic movements along the body and along the so-called marma points. This isn't firm "muscle-breaking" work — it's a calm, enveloping rhythm, in which warmth and oil matter just as much as the hands themselves.

For the nervous system, warmth and a predictable rhythm signal: you can slow down. In Ayurveda, this is called "grounding" — the feeling of gathering yourself back together as the mind stops racing, the breath lengthens, and the body "settles". In practice, you leave calm, warm, and with noticeably nourished, soft skin.

Three layers in cross-section: the skin at the surface, the fascia together with the subcutaneous tissue beneath it, and deepest of all the muscles, where tension gathers. Warm herbal oils and rhythmic movement work in turn on the skin, the fascia and the muscles. The massage therapist matches the pressure to your tolerance.
  1. Neck and shouldershours at a screen, shoulders pulled up to the ears
  2. Between the shoulder bladesdesk work, the back held closed
  3. Lower backsitting, lifting, long drives

Fun fact: the word Abhyanga in Sanskrit literally means "oil massage". In the Ayurvedic tradition, generous, warm oil isn't an add-on to the massage — it's its essence: meant to "ground", envelop and nourish. It's one of the oldest self-care rituals we know.

Ideal for

Ideal for

  1. Overstimulation and scattered focuswhen your mind is racing and it's hard to "gather yourself".
  2. Chronic stress and tensionshoulders up by your ears, a body tense from a week on the run.
  3. Sleep problems and fatiguea need for deep calm and regeneration.
  4. Dry, thirsty skingenerous, warm oil nourishes and smooths the body.
  5. A need to "ground" yourselfa moment to pause, a ritual from another part of the world, a reset for the senses.
  6. A gifta voucher for an Ayurvedic ritual, or a shared massage for two.

How is it different from a "regular" relaxation massage

Three things set Ayurvedic massage apart: generous, warm herbal oil, work along the marma points, and the traditional rhythm of "grounding". A classic relaxation massage also calms, but it can feel "drier" and lacks this sensory framework. For basic questions about relaxation itself and general contraindications, see the separate page: relaxation massage.

What to expect

For women and for men

For her

Why women choose Abhyanga

Ayurvedic massage for women is most often a conscious ritual "for yourself" — a way to pause in a world that never slows down, to quiet mental load and nourish the skin with warm oil. The sensory setting — the scent of herbs, warmth, calm rhythm — is part of the effect here, not an extra.

The areas we support

  1. deep calm and "grounding" after a week on the run;
  2. nourishing dry skin with generous, warm oil — the body leaves soft and smooth;
  3. a regenerative ritual during periods of overload and scattered focus;
  4. oil chosen to suit your needs — from deep calm to a gentle warming effect.
For him

Ayurvedic massage for men — a habit of recovery, not exoticism

Ayurvedic massage for men is increasingly part of a recovery routine, not exoticism — a way to "reset" when the mind is racing and tension settles in the neck, shoulders and back. The goal is the same: to come down from "high revs", "ground" yourself, and genuinely rest.

The areas we support

  1. calm after an intensive week of mental work and stress;
  2. releasing tension in the neck, shoulders and back with warm oil;
  3. firmer, more decisive pressure available on request;
  4. zero downtime — straight back to your day after the massage.

For two: the Ayurvedic ritual also has a couples' version — two tables side by side, shared "grounding" in the same moment. It makes a beautiful anniversary gift. We cover couples' rituals more broadly under SPA Rituals.

When it's better to postpone the massage

Ayurvedic massage is gentle and enveloping, and safe for most people, but in a few situations we simply postpone the visit until things have passed — or ask you to consult your doctor first. It's an "oil" ritual, after all, so skin and allergy questions come into play too.

Red flag — when we don't massage
  • Allergy to oils or herbs — for allergies or sensitive skin, we do a patch test on a small area first; if you have a known allergy, we choose a safe oil or postpone.
  • Fever and infection — colds, flu, a low-grade fever: we wait until you've recovered.
  • Acute inflammation — a fresh injury, swelling, phlebitis, extensive bruising.
  • Thrombosis or suspected thrombosis — massage is contraindicated with thromboembolic disease; see a doctor first.
  • Wounds, fresh scars, irritation and skin lesions in the massage area — we work around these until healed (the oil could irritate them).
  • Pregnancy — we perform Ayurvedic massage no earlier than the second trimester, once your doctor has confirmed there are no contraindications; ask separately about massage during pregnancy.
  • Chronic conditions and concerns (including cancer, cardiac issues) — consult your doctor before your visit.

This isn't a complete list — if you have any concerns about your health or skin, let us know when booking or at the start of your visit. We'd rather postpone the massage by a few days, or change the oil, than proceed against good judgement.

What to expect

What to expect during your visit

  1. Faza 1.startdiscussing tension and needs, choosing the warm oil and setting
  2. Faza 2.sessionrhythmic massage with warm oil — breathing slows, the body "settles", the mind quiets
  3. Faza 3.right aftera feeling of "grounding" and warmth; soft, nourished skin, sometimes a pleasant drowsiness
  4. Faza 4.that eveningdeeper, calmer sleep; the next day, calm and soft skin
The most common concern: "I'll leave covered in oil." Don't worry — this is an "oil" massage by design, but we remove the excess at the end, and what remains is left to nourish the skin. It's worth wearing comfortable clothing and not planning an important outing right after your visit. If you're after genuinely deep, targeted work on a specific knot of tension, tell us at the start — sometimes a classic massage is the better choice.

After the massage

How to make the effect last longer

Ayurvedic massage doesn't require any recovery time — you're straight back to your day. But a few small things help the feeling of "grounding", calm, and soft skin last much longer:

  1. Hydration

    drink water after the massage

    After the massage, reach for water and drink it steadily for the rest of the day. Good hydration helps the body "complete" its regeneration and helps the feeling of lightness last.

  2. Rest

    let the "grounding" settle

    If you can, don't jump straight back into things. A calm evening, warm tea, no screens — this is when the calming effect works best.

  3. Oil on the skin

    leave it to nourish

    The oil left on your skin keeps working — nourishing and smoothing. If you can, give it some time before showering; plan a warm bath at your leisure.

  4. Sleep

    go to bed earlier

    The evening after Abhyanga is a great time for sleep — your body is warm and relaxed, and your nervous system is "grounded". Many clients sleep unusually deeply afterwards.

  5. Intense exercise

    skip it that day

    Intense exertion straight after the massage "revs up" exactly what we've just calmed down. A light walk — fine; a heavy workout — better the next day.

  6. Getting back to your day

    not "straight onto your phone"

    The fastest way to undo the calming effect is an immediate return to emails, calls and to-do lists. Give yourself at least a few dozen minutes of "buffer" before returning to full speed.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionWhat does "Ayurvedic massage" mean, and what is Abhyanga?
    AnswerAbhyanga is a classic full-body massage in the Indian Ayurvedic tradition — using generous amounts of warm herbal oil, in rhythmic movements along the body and the so-called marma points. The aim is deep calm, "grounding", and skin nourishment. It's a wellness ritual, not a medical treatment.
  2. QuestionWhat is "grounding" that you mention?
    AnswerIt's a common way of describing the feeling this massage gives: gathering yourself back together as your mind stops racing, your breath lengthens, and your body "settles" and relaxes. In the Ayurvedic tradition, warmth and oil are meant precisely to "ground" you — to soothe a scattered mind.
  3. QuestionWill I leave covered in oil?
    AnswerThis is an "oil" massage by design, but we remove the excess at the end, and what remains is left to nourish the skin. It's worth wearing comfortable clothing and not planning an important outing right after your visit — give the oil, and yourself, a little time.
  4. QuestionDoes Ayurvedic massage hurt?
    AnswerIt shouldn't. This is enveloping, rhythmic work aimed at calm and "grounding", not at "breaking up" muscles. If at any point the pressure feels too firm or too light, just tell us — we'll adjust it as we go.
