SCALP & HAIR

Follicles cleared
“the first step”

Oily roots, white "powder" on your shoulders, itching and a tight, "clogged" feeling on the scalp — this is daily life for many people who keep trying different shampoos with no result. The problem usually isn't the hair.

It's the scalp: dead skin cells, built-up sebum and flakes clog follicle openings, creating conditions that favour dandruff and excess oil production. Scalp cleansing and exfoliation is a trichology treatment that gently exfoliates and cleanses the scalp. It removes dead skin, excess sebum and flakes, unblocks follicle openings and lets the scalp breathe again. This isn't a strong medical facial peel — the goal here is gentler and more about "tidying up": calming excess oil production, reducing dandruff and preparing the scalp so subsequent treatments and home care work better. That's why in trichology, scalp exfoliation is very often step one of the whole treatment programme — a clean, "unclogged" surface absorbs active ingredients far more effectively. At J'adore Instytut, it's performed by a trichologist or experienced cosmetologist. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your first visit.

  • Oily scalp
  • Dandruff and excess sebum

How it works

How it works

The scalp exfoliates and produces sebum in the same way facial skin does — except beneath a dense covering of hair, it's easier for dead skin cells and excess sebum to build up. Over time, follicle openings become "clogged," leading to dandruff, itching and a heavy feeling of hair that turns oily quickly. Scalp exfoliation is a controlled exfoliation and cleansing of this layer: it removes dead skin cells, dissolves and washes away excess sebum, lifts flakes and unblocks the follicle openings through which each hair grows.

Depending on scalp condition, we use an enzymatic peel (gentler — enzymes "digest" dead skin cells), an acid-based peel (mild exfoliating acids that also regulate sebum production), or a mechanical peel (fine particles that physically remove hardened skin cells). The effect works two ways: the scalp regains balance (less excess oil and dandruff, less itching), while at the same time absorbing whatever comes next far better — active ingredients penetrate deeper into clean, unclogged skin than into skin blocked by flakes and sebum. This is why scalp exfoliation is so often the first step of a full trichology treatment programme.

Three levels of the scalp in cross-section: the stratum corneum with its flakes and sebum on top, the hair follicle openings beneath it, and deepest of all the dermis with the follicles. The formula loosens the keratinised layer and unblocks the follicle openings. The treatment works at the surface — it does not go below the epidermis.

Ideal for

Ideal for

  1. Oily scalpwhen hair turns greasy the day after washing and loses volume at the roots.
  2. Dandruff and excess sebumwhite or oily dandruff, flakes, a tight, "clogged" scalp feeling.
  3. Itching and discomforta scalp that reacts with itching, tightness or irritation (without active inflammation).
  4. Detox and "reset" before a treatment programmeas step 1 before a series of nourishing treatments, to cleanse and prepare the scalp.
  5. Poor absorption of hair care productswhen serums, ampoules and lotions "sit on the hair" rather than working, because the scalp is clogged.
  6. After intensive stylinglayered products, dry shampoo, hairspray building up at the roots.
  7. Which type of exfoliation, and whether a series is needed — this is decided after a scalp assessment. A different approach suits excess oil production than dry dandruff or sensitive skin, so there is no single "one-size-fits-all" peel.

Women's zone and men's zone

What's different

For her

When hair turns oily fast — and it isn't about your shampoo

For women, scalp exfoliation most often solves the problem of hair that turns oily quickly, dandruff and loss of volume at the roots. Thick, long hair can "hide" a clogged, oily scalp — exfoliation lets it breathe again, and your style stays fresh and light for longer. It's often also a great opening step for a nourishing treatment programme when thinning is a concern.

The areas we support

  1. fast oiliness at the roots and lack of volume;
  2. dandruff, itching, a "clogged" scalp feeling;
  3. layered products and dry shampoo building up at the roots;
  4. preparing the scalp before a series of mesotherapy or a strengthening programme.
For him

Oily scalp, dandruff, itching — it isn't about washing more often

For men, scalp exfoliation is primarily about an oily scalp, oily dandruff and comfort — sweat under a cap, frequent washing, itching after training. Under short hair, a clogged, oily scalp is more visible and more bothersome. To be honest: exfoliation resets the scalp and improves comfort, and can also be a preparatory step for a treatment programme where thinning is a concern — but on its own, it isn't a treatment "for hair regrowth."

The areas we support

  1. oily scalp, oily dandruff, itching after exertion and under headwear;
  2. a "clogged," tight scalp despite frequent washing;
  3. preparing the foundation for a treatment programme in early thinning;
  4. zero downtime — short visit, straight back to your day.

Did you know: we often care for the scalp least of all — we wash "hair," not the skin beneath it. Yet the scalp is exactly the foundation from which every hair grows. Trichologists like this comparison: it's like preparing a garden — first you tidy and aerate the soil, and only then does anything grow better on it.

Safety and hygiene

What really matters

Scalp exfoliation is a gentle, needle-free treatment, but "exfoliation" always calls for judgement — cleansing the scalp without irritating it. A few things are worth asking about at any salon:

  1. Who performs it, and whether they assess your scalp

    At J'adore, exfoliation is carried out by a trichologist or experienced cosmetologist after a scalp assessment — this determines whether to choose the enzymatic, acid-based or mechanical version, and how much exfoliation to apply.

  2. Matched to your scalp condition

    A different peel suits an oily scalp with excess sebum than a dry, sensitive one prone to dandruff. "Stronger" doesn't mean "better" — for sensitive skin, gentleness is an advantage, not a compromise.

  3. A gentle goal, not aggression

    This is the scalp, not a deep medical facial peel — we aim for cleansing and balance, not intensive exfoliation of the skin.

  4. Clean, professional products

    We work with reputable trichology products for the scalp, matched to the problem — not a random "peel from the internet."

Red flag: a weeping, inflamed, or intensely itchy scalp · If your scalp burns, weeps, has wounds, pustular patches, thick adhered flakes or pronounced inflammationthis isn't the moment for exfoliation. It's a signal for a dermatologist to assess it first. Seborrhoeic scalp dermatitis, psoriasis or fungal infections need treatment, not exfoliation. Exfoliation can support the process later, once the scalp calms down — but exfoliating irritated, inflamed skin only makes things worse.

SCALP & HAIR

What to expect during your visit

  1. Scalp assessmentthe specialist examines your scalp (ideally with trichoscopy), assesses excess oil, dandruff and sensitivity, and selects the type and intensity of exfoliation.
  2. Preparationhair is parted into sections to reach the scalp, followed by preliminary cleansing.
  3. Applying the exfoliantthe product is applied to the scalp and gently spread; with enzymatic or acid-based exfoliation, the product "works" for a short time; with mechanical exfoliation, gentle exfoliating massage follows.
  4. Rinsing and cleansingthe scalp is thoroughly rinsed of remaining product, sebum and exfoliated skin, often with a massage that further improves comfort.
  5. Finishing touches and advicea soothing lotion or serum, drying and home-care recommendations. No visible marks and no downtime — you return to your day immediately.

Contraindications

When to postpone the treatment

Scalp exfoliation is gentle and needle-free, but there are situations where we postpone the treatment — usually until the scalp has calmed down. Some contraindications are permanent, others temporary.

We don't perform it
  • Active inflammation or scalp infectionweeping lesions, pustular patches, seborrhoeic dermatitis in an acute phase, fungal infection — the scalp needs treatment first.
  • Wounds, abrasions, fresh cutson the scalp — we wait until healed.
  • Fresh tan or sunburnon the scalp — we wait for the irritation to subside.
  • Pronounced, unexplained psoriasis or other dermatological conditionon the scalp — requires assessment, often with dermatologist approval.
  • Very severe, sudden hair loss or concerning changesthe cause needs diagnosis first, not exfoliation.
  • Known allergy or strong sensitivityto exfoliant ingredients — we select a different, safe option or postpone.

From the trichologist's chair

A commonly confused point: "I have dandruff, so I need exfoliation even more — and a strong one straight away." In fact, with an inflamed, weeping scalp, exfoliation causes harm rather than help. In that case, we calm the skin first (sometimes with a dermatologist's help), and exfoliation comes later, once the inflammation has passed.

This isn't a complete list — your medications, health conditions, scalp condition and previous treatments are reviewed individually at your consultation with trichoscopy.

What to expect

No surprises

Most importantly, you'll usually feel relief and "lightness" in your scalp right away, but regulating excess oil and dandruff is a process — for pronounced problems, a series works best, not a single treatment. Exfoliation on its own cleanses in the moment; lasting balance is built through regularity and good home care.

  1. Faza 1.right afterscalp cleansed and light; possible brief, mild flushing
  2. Faza 2.first few daysless itching and tightness; hair stays fresh at the roots for longer
  3. Faza 3.after the seriesnoticeably calmer sebum production and less dandruff; scalp in better balance
  4. Faza 4.maintenanceperiodic repeats plus good home care maintain the effect; without this, the problem returns
The most common misunderstanding: "I'll get an exfoliation and the dandruff will disappear forever." A tendency toward excess sebum and dandruff is a skin characteristic that's managed, not erased with a single treatment. Exfoliation does a huge amount of work as a "reset" and preparation, but the real difference shows when it's combined with the right shampoo and regularity.
From the trichologist's chair

What's normal right after the treatment

  • a feeling of clean, "breathing" and light scalp and hair;
  • temporary, light flushing of the scalp, especially with a more oily or sensitive scalp — fades quickly;
  • occasionally a brief feeling of mild tightness in the scalp, which eases once moisturised.

The result isn't permanent "once and for all" — the scalp exfoliates and produces sebum again over time. That's why, for excess oil and dandruff, we repeat exfoliation at sensible intervals, with home care doing the work between visits.

Scalp exfoliation and your lifestyle

What and when

This is a gentle, needle-free treatment, so restrictions are minimal — the main point is to avoid irritating a freshly cleansed scalp during the first few hours and give it time to regain balance.

  1. Washing your hair

    as usual, gently

    Your scalp is already cleansed — wash it normally next time, with a gentle shampoo suited to your concern. Avoid vigorous rubbing or scratching with your nails.

  2. Sun and headwear

    protect it for a while

    A freshly exfoliated scalp can be a little more sensitive to sun. In the first few hours, especially in summer, protect it with headwear.

  3. Sauna and swimming pool

    skip it that day

    Intense sweating and chlorinated water right after exfoliation can irritate the scalp. Plan the sauna and pool for the next day instead.

  4. Hair colouring and heavy styling

    plan ahead

    Don't combine hair colouring, toning or aggressive styling with exfoliation on the same day. Exfoliated skin reacts more easily to irritation — schedule these separately.

  5. Massage and combing

    straight away, gently

    Gentle scalp massage and normal combing are fine. Just avoid harsh scratching with a comb on freshly cleansed skin.

  6. Daily life

    zero downtime

    You return to work and your daily activities immediately — scalp exfoliation leaves no visible marks or recovery period.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionAfter how many sessions will I see results?
    AnswerYou'll usually feel a clean, light scalp right after the first treatment. Regulating excess oil and dandruff is a process — for pronounced problems, a series at intervals combined with the right home care works best.
  2. QuestionWill scalp exfoliation cure my dandruff?
    AnswerNot "cure" in the medical sense — this is a treatment that supports scalp condition, not a cure. It reduces dandruff and regulates excess oil very effectively, but a tendency toward these issues is a skin characteristic that's managed over time. For pronounced, inflammatory dandruff, we first assess whether a dermatologist is needed.
  3. QuestionIs the result permanent?
    AnswerNot permanently — the scalp exfoliates and produces sebum again over time. That's why, for excess oil and dandruff, we repeat exfoliation at sensible intervals, with home care doing the work between visits.
  4. QuestionWill scalp exfoliation make my hair grow back?
    AnswerThat isn't its goal. Exfoliation cleanses and regulates the scalp and unblocks follicle openings, creating better conditions for a treatment programme. Density and hair loss are addressed by other treatments (such as scalp mesotherapy), for which exfoliation is often a preparatory step.
