A treatment room at J'adoreAESTHETIC MEDICINE
Skin starts to “give away your age” not where you care for it most. It happens where it loses density fastest: the neck, décolletage, backs of the hands and a softening facial contour.
This is the result of one process — with every decade, we produce less type I collagen, which forms the skin’s scaffold. Injectable collagen works at the source: it delivers ready-made building material directly into the dermis while stimulating the skin to produce its own. It is not a filler — it does not “plump up” the lips or cheeks, and does not alter your features. It improves skin density, firmness and quality in a natural way. At J'adore Instytut, the treatment is performed by a doctor or experienced cosmetologist. Below, we have gathered everything worth knowing before your first visit. This includes the questions people ask most often: does it hurt, when will you see results, why do product prices differ, and why is collagen in a tablet not the same.

What injectable collagen is
Injectable collagen is native (unchanged) type I collagen delivered directly into the dermis — using multipoint mesotherapy or the nappage technique. This is the same type of collagen that naturally forms the scaffold of our skin. As we age, we produce less of it, and the skin loses density, firmness and elasticity.
This is where the most common misunderstanding arises: collagen in tablets or cream is a completely different matter. A collagen molecule is too large for a cream to carry it through the epidermis into the dermis. A supplement is broken down by the body into individual amino acids. It does not reach “one specific place” as ready-made collagen and cannot rebuild the scaffold where you need it. An injection bypasses these limitations. It delivers collagen precisely to the skin layer where it needs to work.
There is one more distinction worth remembering: injectable collagen is not a filler. It is not used to “plump up” the lips or cheeks, and does not add volume. It strengthens the skin’s structure and quality, with a natural result that does not alter your features.
How it works
Injectable collagen works in two ways, and this is its strength. First, it replenishes what is missing — supplying the skin with ready-made building material where it is needed, immediately increasing matrix density. Second, it stimulates — the presence of native collagen signals fibroblasts, the skin cells that produce collagen and elastin, to work more actively. The result therefore builds with every session in the series. The skin receives material and begins to produce more of its own at the same time.
This is what distinguishes collagen from PLLA biostimulators (such as Sculptra), which primarily stimulate the skin to work without supplying collagen itself as building material. Injectable collagen does both at once. It is therefore often chosen when the aim is to improve skin density and quality “straight away and for longer”, without adding volume.
It is worth understanding where this product is placed and how long it remains there. Collagen is administered superficially into the dermis — the layer beneath the epidermis where fibroblasts work and fibres responsible for elasticity run. It is a structural protein, so it becomes part of the tissue as building material rather than filling space. Over time, the administered collagen undergoes natural absorption — the body treats it like its own protein and gradually remodels it. This is why the result is temporary. For most people, it lasts for months after completing the series, and the plan usually includes a maintenance treatment.

Did you know: the name “collagen” comes from the Greek kólla — glue; for centuries, it was literally used to make wood glue. The dermis is dominated by type I collagen — the same collagen found in tendons and the bone matrix, and the most abundant protein in the human body. It is difficult to find a better metaphor for a substance that binds tissues together.
The most common myth to dispel: “collagen injections are simply stronger hydration”. No — hydration is one noticeable result, but the aim is to rebuild the skin’s structure and density.
Ideal for
Zones: face, neck, décolletage, hands. This treatment is particularly valued in areas where other products may be less effective or require caution — on the delicate skin of the neck, décolletage and backs of the hands. The specialist selects the zone, product and treatment series plan after assessing your skin.
Female and male zones
Most often, the aim is firmness, density “from within” and radiance on the face, neck, décolletage and hands — without adding volume or creating an “overdone” look. This is classic collagen for women. It can form part of a broader skin-quality plan alongside fillers or Botox. It is especially popular where the skin on the neck and hands begins to show age before other areas.
The areas we support
It is still a less common choice, but interest is growing. The goal is discreet: above all, density and restored structure in facial and neck skin — with no sign of “having been to a cosmetologist” and no visible change to facial features. This is collagen for men. Men’s skin can be thicker and have a slightly different texture. It often responds well to collagen stimulation, with visible increased density after just a few sessions.
The areas we support
Did you know? In the dermis, type I collagen makes up the majority of all collagen — it is literally the framework that supports firmness. This is why delivering native type I collagen is not “hydration”. It is like adding bricks to this specific structure.
Safety
With injectable collagen, the result and safety depend on three things worth asking about in every salon:
This is an injectable treatment — at J'adore, it is administered by a doctor or experienced cosmetologist, depending on the product and protocol. Technique, hygiene and appropriate qualification based on your medical history all matter.
With animal-derived collagen (fish, equine, bovine), allergies are genuinely important. A thorough history is essential. If your history is complex, the specialist may recommend a test before the treatment. You need to disclose allergies before the treatment, including fish or seafood allergies when fish collagen is used.
Effectiveness and safety depend on the purity and origin of the material. We work only with products from authorised distributors.
Red flag: suspiciously cheap collagen · A bargain price is often a warning sign. With an injectable product, origin, purification and storage matter as much as technique. You have the right to ask for the product name, its origin and who performs the treatment. A good salon will answer without hesitation. With animal-derived collagen, they will also take an allergy history with you.
Contraindications
Some contraindications are permanent, or require individual qualification. Others are temporary — in that case, we simply postpone the treatment until the situation has passed.
From the specialist’s salon
The issue most often forgotten is herpes. People think: “I only have it on my lips, and the collagen is for my neck — so it does not matter.” It does matter — an active virus creates a risk regardless of where it appears. It is better to postpone for a few days.
This is not a complete list — we will discuss your medication, conditions, allergies and previous treatments individually during consultation.

The visit

Consultation
the specialist assesses your skin condition and thickness. They select the treatment area and collagen type for your specific needs. With collagen, it is especially important to take an allergy history, particularly when animal-derived products are used. If your history indicates a risk, they may recommend a test before the treatment.

Preparation
thorough cleansing and disinfection of the skin. We usually apply numbing cream for comfort. The treatment is well tolerated.

Administration
collagen is administered using multi-point mesotherapy or nappage. It is injected superficially into the dermis, evenly covering the area. Each injection takes a few seconds and feels like a light prick.

Finishing and leaving
we apply a soothing serum and cool the skin. This reduces redness and helps the small bumps disappear faster. No dressings are needed.

Treatment plan
you receive aftercare advice and a date for your next session. The whole visit usually takes several dozen minutes.
What to expect
Most importantly: you will not see the full result straight away. Part of the result comes from stimulating your skin’s own collagen production. This is a process. The first signs of improvement — better hydration, gentle firmness and radiance — usually appear after two to four weeks. The full result is assessed after completing the series.
Some women write after a few days: “the bumps have gone down, but nothing has changed”. This is completely normal — injectable collagen is a treatment performed as a series, with results that build gradually. A single session mainly provides initial hydration and gentle firmness. Density and firming build only with subsequent treatments.

Allergies are the issue most often overlooked during consultation. People think, “it is only collagen”. With animal-derived products — fish, equine or bovine — this is precisely the point that must not be missed. We take an allergy history seriously when using collagen. If there is any doubt, we perform a test.

This is one of those treatments where subsequent sessions build towards a longer-lasting result. After completing the series, the result usually lasts from six months to one year. It depends on your skin, lifestyle and sun protection. A single maintenance treatment is then performed.
Collagen and your lifestyle
The most frequent questions are not about the treatment itself, but about what happens afterwards: exercise, sauna, sun and make-up. There is one rule — during the first hours and days, we protect freshly “nourished” skin. This helps reduce swelling and bruising, and avoids breaking down newly formed collagen.
Exercise before the treatment does not interfere with anything. After the treatment, avoid intense exercise for around 24 hours — increased circulation can contribute to swelling and bruising.
High temperatures dilate blood vessels and increase swelling. It is best to wait one to two days before using a sauna, swimming pool or hot bath.
Postpone intensive sun exposure and sunbeds. SPF 50+ is essential for an extended period — UV breaks down newly formed collagen, literally reducing the effect of the treatment.
Postpone strong acids and retinol for around two days. Until the end of the series, keep your home skincare gentle to avoid irritating skin that is actively rebuilding.
Alcohol dilates blood vessels and increases the risk of bruising. It is best avoided on the day of the treatment and, if you are prone to bruising, also the day before.
Do not massage the injection sites during the first 24 hours. Make-up can usually be applied from the following day. For men, shave the treatment area after around 48 hours.
Before the treatment, gentle skincare is enough. It is worth stopping strong acids for a few days and — in consultation with the specialist — medications that increase bleeding.
