MEDICAL PEELS

Smoother pores and glow
“on enzymes”

Grey, tired skin, roughness, visible pores and that feeling that your skin "isn't breathing" despite the creams — this is the most common reason clients ask about peels. The trouble is, not every skin type can tolerate strong acid peels.

Sensitive, vascular skin, or skin that's simply "never been peeled before", tends to react with stinging and redness. The pumpkin peel (Pumpkin) is an enzymatic peel — it exfoliates without acids. Instead of dissolving the skin, enzymes from pumpkin "digest" only dead epidermal cells, while peptides nourish the skin at the same time. That's its role: a gentle, therapeutic way to brighten skin and refine pores — including as a first peel for skin that's wary of acids. At J'adore Instytut, this treatment is performed by an experienced cosmetologist. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your first visit.

  • Grey, tired skin
  • Rough, uneven skin
  • Visible, enlarged pores
  • Sensitive, reactive skin
  • First peel ever
  • Dry, dehydrated skin
  • Skin preparation
  • Oily skin with minor imperfections

How it works

How it works

The pumpkin peel is an enzymatic peel — and that word changes everything. Acid peels (mandelic, salicylic, ferulic) dissolve the bonds between cells using an acid at a specific pH. An enzymatic peel works differently: enzymes in pumpkin flesh "digest" only dead, keratinised epidermal cells, without disturbing the living skin beneath. It's more of a "clean-up" than forced exfoliation.

At J'adore, we work with the professional Dermomedica peptide pumpkin peel formula. Alongside pumpkin enzymes, it contains peptides that nourish your skin at the same time it's being cleansed. That's why the result isn't just smoothness — it's also radiance and refined-looking pores, without that tight, irritated feeling you get after a strong acid.

Three levels of skin in cross-section: the stratum corneum right at the top, the living epidermis beneath it, and deepest of all the dermis. Pumpkin enzymes break down the connections between the dead cells of the stratum corneum. The cosmetologist matches the concentration and the exposure time to the condition of your skin.
  1. Stratum corneumdead cells loosened by the peel
  2. Living epidermisthe level the exfoliation reaches
  3. Dermisdeeper than a superficial peel reaches

Women's needs vs men's needs

What's different

For her

Your skin, your concerns — what we hear most often from women

For women, this is most often a treatment "for glow and smoothness" — brightening grey skin, refining pores and preparing skin that doesn't tolerate stronger peels well. This is the classic pumpkin peel for women: gentle, well tolerated by sensitive and vascular skin, and a great first step or pre-event treatment.

The areas we support

  1. brightening grey, tired skin and evening out skin tone;
  2. smoothing roughness and improving the look of pores;
  3. a safe first peel for sensitive, vascular skin;
  4. skincare "for glow" before a wedding, a photoshoot or a celebration.
For him

The pumpkin peel for men — why it makes sense for you

Men's skin tends to be thicker and more often oily, with larger pores and sometimes scars or marks from acne built up over years. On top of that comes a lack of SPF habit and shaving irritation. This is the pumpkin peel for men: it unclogs pores and brightens grey-looking skin, and since it doesn't cause flaky peeling, it won't interfere with daily shaving or work.

The areas we support

  1. oily, grey skin with enlarged pores;
  2. acne marks and scars — smoothing texture across a series;
  3. shaving irritation and "tired"-looking skin;
  4. zero downtime — you can go straight back to your day after the treatment.

Did you know: pumpkin in cosmetology isn't a marketing gimmick. Its flesh is naturally rich in enzymes and carotenoids — the same compounds that give skin a "healthy" tone — which is why pumpkin peels have long been a favourite for grey, tired skin, combining exfoliation with genuine nourishment.

Safety

What really determines the result

A peel isn't "a drugstore product applied more heavily". A few things determine the result and its safety, and they're worth asking about at any salon:

  1. Who performs it, and whether there was a consultation

    The peel is chosen by an experienced cosmetologist after analysing your skin — its type, reactivity and phototype. An "off-the-shelf peel" with no skin assessment is asking for irritation or hyperpigmentation.

  2. Whether the product is genuine

    We use the original, professional Dermomedica formula, sourced legally. A cheap, non-genuine "pumpkin peel" from an unknown source means an unpredictable composition and result.

  3. Whether there's a plan, not a sell for "something stronger"

    A good result is built by a series, not by one "strongest" treatment. If someone insists that stronger always means better, that's a warning sign.

Red flags — what to watch out for with peels ·

  • A peel with no consultation and no phototype assessment — this is the basis of proper selection, not a formality.
  • "Stronger = better" — with an enzymatic peel, the strength lies in gentleness and repetition, not aggression.
  • No SPF advice after the treatment — skin after a peel is more sensitive to the sun; skipping sunscreen risks hyperpigmentation.
  • A non-genuine or "unbranded" product — you have the right to ask about the brand and composition.
  • A series sold without a plan — a "stock up" package with no skin analysis or schedule is a red flag.
  • A peel in full summer sun with no protection — it can be done outside the ideal season, but only with strict SPF discipline.

MEDICAL PEELS

What to expect during your visit

  1. Consultation & skin assessmentyour cosmetologist assesses your skin type, reactivity, phototype and your goal, and rules out contraindications. This is where we decide whether the pumpkin peel is the best option for you.
  2. Makeup removal and degreasingskin is thoroughly cleansed so the enzymes work evenly.
  3. Applying the peelthe product is applied to the face (and, if needed, the neck and décolletage) and left on for a set time. You may feel gentle warmth or slight tingling — no sharp stinging.
  4. Removal / neutralisationthe peel is thoroughly removed from the skin.
  5. Soothing mask and SPFa soothing, hydrating product is applied at the end, plus sun protection if you're heading outside.
  6. Aftercareyou'll receive specific home-care instructions for the days ahead.

Contraindications

When to postpone the treatment

The pumpkin peel is one of the gentlest treatments, but even so, there are situations where we simply postpone it until your skin is ready.

We don't perform it
  • Active cold sores (Herpes)even in a different area from the one being treated. Chemical peels are a recognised trigger for reactivating the virus; if this applies, we postpone the treatment until it's healed.
  • Active inflammation and skin irritationfresh wounds, abrasions, flared-up acne within the treatment area.
  • Fresh tan or intense UV exposureskin after sun exposure is irritated and prone to hyperpigmentation.
  • Allergy to product ingredientsincluding, rarely, pumpkin-derived ingredients.
  • Isotretinoin usecurrently, or within the last few months; requires clearance from your treating doctor.
  • Tendency to keloid scarring and certain skin conditionsassessed individually.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeedingthe pumpkin peel is gentle, but we discuss suitability and choice at consultation.

Recurring cold sores? Mention it at consultation

If cold sores recur regularly for you, be sure to mention this before the treatment. With medium-depth peels in such cases, it's worth discussing antiviral prophylaxis before the treatment — this is standard caution, not a cause for concern.

This isn't a complete list — we'll go through your medication, skin conditions and previous treatments individually at consultation. If there's any doubt, your cosmetologist may refer you to a doctor for consultation.

What to expect

No surprises

The best news: this peel doesn't take you out of your daily life. Unlike strong retinol or TCA peels, the pumpkin peel usually doesn't cause flaky peeling. Skin after the treatment is smoother and brighter — that "fresh" effect is often visible right away.

I sometimes hear: "if it's this gentle, surely it won't do anything?" That's a myth. With enzymatic peels, the strength lies in repetition — skin used to regular, gentle exfoliation looks better than after one aggressive treatment that leaves you hiding from the world.
From the cosmetologist's chair

What's normal right after the treatment

  • slight redness — usually fades within a few hours;
  • a mild feeling of tightness or warmth for a while after the treatment;
  • sometimes subtle, minor flaking over the following days — not noticeable to others.

The result after a single session is mainly radiance and smoothness. Lasting improvement in skin tone, texture and pore appearance builds across a series — usually 4–6 sessions every 1–2 weeks, which your cosmetologist will tailor to your skin.

The peel and your lifestyle

What's fine, and when

After a peel, your skin is freshly "uncovered" and more sensitive to sun and irritation for a few days. Most questions are about exactly this: what happens after — sun, makeup, sauna, sport, home acids. There's one rule — for a few days, treat your skin gently and protect it strictly from UV.

  1. Sun and SPF

    SPF daily, without exception

    This is the most important point with any peel. After the treatment, skin is prone to hyperpigmentation — daily SPF 50+ for at least a few weeks is essential. Without it, you risk the opposite effect: spots instead of glow.

  2. Makeup

    best from the next day

    Let your skin rest on treatment day. Light makeup usually works from the following day — we don't recommend heavy foundation straight after a peel.

  3. Sauna, swimming pool, hot bath

    skip for a few days

    High temperatures, chlorine and sweat irritate freshly exfoliated skin. Sauna, swimming pools and hot baths — best left for a few days.

  4. Retinol and home acids

    pause for a few days

    Strong acids and retinol in your home routine overlap with the peel's action and can irritate your skin. Go back to them once your cosmetologist gives the green light.

  5. Sport and sweating

    go easy on treatment day

    Intense training and heavy sweating on treatment day can sting and irritate. You can safely return to full activity the very next day.

  6. Holidays and sunbeds

    plan around the off-season

    Peels are best done away from intense sun. If you have holidays or sunbed sessions coming up, plan your series so your skin isn't freshly treated when exposed to full sun.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionDoes the pumpkin peel sting or hurt?
    AnswerUsually not. Most clients feel, at most, gentle warmth or slight tingling. This is an enzymatic peel, so it works more gently than strong acid peels — that's why even sensitive skin tolerates it well.
  2. QuestionWill I peel, and for how many days?
    AnswerUsually there's no visible, flaky peeling. You may notice subtle, minor flaking for a few days, unnoticeable to others. That's one reason this peel is popular as a pre-event glow treatment.
  3. QuestionWhen will I see results?
    AnswerRadiance and smoothness are often visible right after the treatment. Lasting improvement in tone, texture and pore appearance builds over a series of 4–6 sessions every 1–2 weeks.
  4. QuestionDoes "gentle" mean "ineffective"?
    AnswerNo. With enzymatic peels, the strength lies in consistency. Skin used to gentle, repeated exfoliation looks better than after one aggressive treatment — and you won't need to hide from the world afterwards.
