Women's haircuts are our specialty, and this is what this page covers. Women's haircuts — what does gender have to do with it?

Women's hair follows its own set of rules: fine hair after pregnancy that's lost density and now sits differently at the temples than it did before; a thick, heavy mane that won't come alive without layering; wavy hair that reacts to humidity and needs a different cutting line than straight hair. The stylist at J'adore Instytut works exclusively with women's hair — she knows this material inside out, and she knows the same hairstyle looks completely different on fine hair versus thick hair.
Women's haircuts also take into account how women's features respond to a cutting line: a high, straight fringe shortens the forehead on an oval face differently than a curtain fringe on a wide cheekbone. A long bob at jaw level softens a square jawline — but only when the line sits in the right place. This isn't aesthetics "from the internet" — it's anatomy. The angle of the jaw, the width of the forehead, the length of the neck: these proportions decide the direction of the scissors.

The most common concerns women have before a visit

  • "I was worried the stylist would cut without asking." Every visit starts with a conversation: what stays, what should change, how many centimetres are absolutely off-limits, and why. During a transformation, we show you the stages as we go — the scissors only continue after your "yes".
  • "I have thin hair, and every cut thins it out more." Not every cut does. Layering fine hair is a different technique — the layering pattern and cutting angle can visually thicken a hairstyle rather than strip it down.
  • "I once left another salon with a mullet instead of a bob." That's why we consult in front of the mirror before the scissors come out — we agree on direction together, and we show you the result on wet hair before drying.
  • "I have very little time in the morning, and tutorial hairstyles never work for me." That's important information for the stylist: we choose a shape that styles itself in a few minutes, without a curling iron or a hairdryer on full blast.

Women's hair and life stages — when to come in

Women's hair changes in density, texture and growth rate depending on life stage. After pregnancy and breastfeeding, increased shedding and a shift in hair structure are common — this is a moment when a shorter shape or the right layering can visually "fill in" the gaps. During menopause, hair can become subtly thicker or thinner and may need a style adjustment, even if it used to sit perfectly. Styling chosen for your current stage — not for a photo from five years ago — makes the difference between a hairstyle that adds energy and one you have to rescue every day.

Colour and cut — why order matters

If you're planning both a haircut and colouring, the order isn't arbitrary: some colouring techniques (like balayage or full lightening) are done on the length first, and the cut then shapes it afterwards — the stylist decides this sequence for your specific case. It's important to mention both services when booking, so we can reserve enough time for both, rather than rushing one.

Frequently asked questions

Will a haircut damage my hair after colouring or lightening?
Quite the opposite — on heavily lightened ends, cutting removes the most damaged part of the hair and improves how it looks. It's often the first step to making colour look clearer and deeper. If the hair structure is very weakened, the stylist will decide the order: regeneration first, then cutting, or the other way round.
I have a fringe and want to grow it out — how long will that take?
We grow out a fringe in stages, not overnight. With a curtain fringe, the early stages grow out quickly — a few visits for trimming and shaping, and the hairstyle looks intentional the whole time, not just "growing out". The stylist will show you how to pin it back at each stage so it looks planned.
Can I make big changes after having a baby?
You can, but it's worth waiting until your hair settles after shedding. With major shape changes on weakened hair, the result can turn out different from what you expect — the stylist will assess the condition and tell you honestly whether it's the right moment for a transformation, or whether it's better to start with strengthening treatments first.
How often should I wash my hair after a haircut to keep the shape?
That depends more on your hair than on the cut. Hair that gets oily at the roots and loses volume quickly benefits from dry shampoo between washes. With dry, thick hair, washing less often can actually help the shape hold. The stylist will suggest a rhythm that suits your hair.
Can I come in with wet or braided hair?
Clean and dry, or slightly damp, works best — no hair ties and no leftover styling products. Hairspray and strong gels can mask your hair's natural texture and make it harder to judge how the cut will fall. For a transformation especially, we want to see your hair in its natural state.
